The 5th annual Heartland Tour will be in Antigonish on July 12, 2011.

Fun Day:Antigonish County Recreation will be hosting a fun day full of activities for kids of all ages. There will be a number of stations that will be keeping you active for the afternoon!

The event will be hosted at the St. Andrew’s Junior School in Antigonish. There is no entry fee, just bring sneakers and sun tan lotion. The main prizes of two bicycles in addition to other prizes are available to be won! More details will be provided in the Antigonish County Recreation summer newsletter.

Bike Rides:There will be two bikes rides for members of the community.

<i>Ride 1: Barney River loop and over Cape GeorgeThe Heartland Tour (HLT) team will be doing the 115 km ride leaving the Keating Millennium Centre at 9:00 am. The ride will take the rider through James River, down the Trans Canada Highway to Barneys River Station and across Avondale Station to Lismore on the Sunset Trail. Riders will continue along route 245 to Malignant Cove where they will meet up with a second group of riders.

Ride 2:The Mini Trail:The mini trail will leave the Keating Millennium Centre at 9:00am, and travel out Hawthorne Street to meet the Barneys River Loop riders at 12:00 noon.
At Malignant Cove, the two groups will ride down picturesque highway 337 climbing from Livingstone Cove to Cape George Point and descending to Ballantynes Cove for a much needed recovery drink. The group will then travel the beautiful coastline of Antigonish to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.

Community Ride:Leaving from St. Martha’s Regional Hospital at approximately 3:30pm the HLT riders along with members of the community, will parade along Main Street up Highland Drive to St. Andrew’s Junior School. A parade permit was received through the Town of Antigonish to privide a safe ride for all participants.This ride is approximately 3 km, and open to all.

Closing Ceremonies:The kids day participants along with all riders will meet at St. Andrew’s Junior School. A message about cardiovascular health and draws for all prizes will take place before the HLT core team boards their bus, making their way to Truro.

Registration:All riders are required to register. Guarantee yourself a great summer T-shirt by pre-registering through this website. Registration will also be available the day of the ride.
